YouTube CPM by Niche: What the Data Actually Shows

The highest-paying YouTube niche pays almost 10x the lowest. Make Money Online averages $13.52 CPM. Video Games averages $1.40. This page has two data layers: Faceless’s own revenue dataset for 50 real channels across 6 niches, and cited public CPM/RPM benchmarks. No individual channel’s earnings are quoted. Every number below is an aggregate.

Two different questions, two different data sources. “How much does a real channel in this niche earn?” is answered by Faceless’s own tracked dataset below. “What does the advertising market pay per 1,000 views in this niche?” is answered by the public CPM/RPM table that follows. Faceless does not have per-view ad data for its tracked channels, because YouTube doesn’t disclose that publicly. So this page keeps the two data sources separate rather than blending them into one invented figure. Full methodology and sources are at the bottom.

The Faceless Dataset: Revenue by Niche

Faceless tracks 50 real YouTube channels across 6 niches in Channels Explorer, sampled April 2026. The table below reports the typical monthly revenue range for established (non-mega) channels in each niche, plus how many channels in the sample reach outlier, high-tier earnings.

NicheChannels trackedTypical monthly revenueHigh-tier outliers
Personal Finance8$1,500–$24,000 (2 of 8 channels)6 of 8 channels reach $70,000–$1,000,000/mo, the most concentrated high-earning niche in this dataset
Cooking9$550–$44,000 (6 of 9 channels)3 of 9 channels reach $84,000–$2,000,000/mo
Tech & News6$2,400–$86,000 (4 of 6 channels)2 of 6 channels reach $105,000–$200,000/mo

Personal Finance stands out: 6 of the 8 tracked channels already sit in the high-revenue tier, meaning this niche’s ceiling is real but its typical entry point is thin. Motivation and Horror & Mystery show the opposite pattern: no channel in either sample has broken into high-tier revenue yet, which tracks with their lower public CPM benchmarks below.

Personal Finance. The widest earnings gap in the dataset. Most tracked channels sit under $24,000/month, but the niche also holds the highest concentration of six-figure-per-month channels of any niche Faceless tracks. Full breakdown: faceless finance channel guide.

Cooking. A large content supply keeps the typical range moderate ($550–$44,000/month), but the niche’s global audience size means a handful of channels scale far past that. Full breakdown: faceless cooking channel guide.

Tech & News. Content ages fast here. A video about a specific product or story has a shorter shelf life than in most other tracked niches, which likely contributes to the wide $2,400–$86,000/month spread between newer and established channels. Full breakdown: faceless tech channel guide.

History & Education. The most consistent mid-tier niche in the dataset: 8 of 10 tracked channels land in a single $1,400–$39,000/month band, with only 2 breaking past it. Full breakdown: faceless history channel guide.

Motivation. Every tracked channel in this niche sits in the $5,000–$50,000/month band: no low-tier stragglers, no high-tier breakouts. That consistency suggests a niche with a real production formula but a real ceiling. Full breakdown: faceless motivation channel guide.

Horror & Mystery. The widest low-end spread in the dataset ($50–$90,000/month) with zero high-tier channels, which fits its lower public CPM benchmark below. This niche earns more through volume and retention than a high per-view rate. Full breakdown: faceless horror channel guide.

One-line takeaways:

Hand holding a game controller, representing the low-CPM but high-volume gaming niche

  • Social Media Marketing ($12.41): SaaS tools, course platforms, and agencies bid heavily for this audience, putting it second only to Make Money Online. Faceless fit is good: screen shares of ad accounts and analytics dashboards carry most videos.
  • Photography & Film Making ($7.31): a smaller, more specialized advertiser pool (camera brands, editing software, stock footage sites) than the top four, but still a meaningful step above general entertainment content.
  • Cars ($4.23): auto-industry advertisers bid at a moderate level. B-roll of the vehicle plus voiceover narration is a standard, workable faceless format.
  • Lifestyle ($3.47) and Fashion & Clothing ($3.13): both niches typically depend on a recognizable on-camera personality or the clothing being worn on a body, which works against the faceless format more than most niches on this list.
  • Entertainment ($2.74): the broadest category here, spanning commentary, compilations, and reaction content. Faceless fit swings from excellent (commentary, compilations) to impossible (personality-driven formats) depending on the specific sub-format chosen.
  • Tech & Gadgets ($2.39) and Reviews & Reactions ($2.03): product shots and screen recordings carry most of the format in both niches; a face is common but not required.
  • Bodybuilding & Fitness ($1.60): demonstration footage of movements and equipment can carry a video without showing the presenter’s face directly.

Reading These Numbers Together

The two tables above answer different questions and use different methods, so don’t force them into one ranking. Faceless’s own tracked channels in Tech & News, for example, show a wide typical-revenue range ($2,400–$86,000) that says more about how uneven this niche’s production quality and upload consistency are than the public CPM average ($2.39 for the closest matching “Tech & Gadgets” category) says on its own.

CPM by itself is also not the whole niche decision. A niche with a high public CPM average that requires expensive gear, specialist knowledge, or heavy on-camera presence can be a worse fit for a new faceless channel than a lower-CPM niche that runs entirely on stock footage and voiceover. For that fuller tradeoff (CPM against competition and production difficulty together), see the best faceless YouTube niches guide or the 75 Faceless Niches Spreadsheet.

Methodology and Sources

Last updated: September 13, 2026.

This page combines two distinct data sources and does not blend them into a single derived number:

  1. The Faceless dataset: 50 real, publicly identifiable YouTube channels tracked across 6 niches (personal finance, cooking, tech & news, history & education, motivation, horror & mystery) in Channels Explorer, sampled April 2026. Each tracked channel has an estimated monthly revenue range and a revenue tier (low/mid/high) assigned from public indicators. This page reports only aggregate ranges and tier counts, never a single channel’s individual figures. Revenue estimates come from public view counts cross-referenced with niche CPM ranges, so each range reflects real uncertainty rather than any creator’s private payout data.
  2. Public CPM/RPM benchmarks: aggregated from creator-disclosed revenue and view data published by Jack Cao, TubeBuddy, and LenosTube. These are third-party aggregations of creator-reported data, not Faceless’s own measurements.

Faceless does not have access to per-view ad impression data for the channels it tracks. That data isn’t publicly disclosed by YouTube or creators at that level of detail, so this page does not compute or imply a CPM figure for any channel in the Faceless dataset. Where the two data sources cover an overlapping topic (personal finance, cooking, tech), read them as two independent signals about the same niche, not as one combined statistic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the highest CPM niche on YouTube?

Make Money Online tops public CPM benchmarks at a $13.52 average, based on aggregated creator-reported data (Jack Cao, 2026). Social Media Marketing ($12.41) and Finance & Investing ($12.25) follow closely. All three reward advertisers targeting viewers already in a buying or investing mindset.

Why does YouTube CPM vary so much by niche?

CPM tracks advertiser demand, not view count. A viewer watching a personal finance video is worth more to a bank or brokerage than a viewer watching a gaming clip is worth to a snack brand, so advertisers bid more to reach them. That bidding gap is why Make Money Online’s public CPM average runs roughly 10x Video Games'.

Is CPM the same as how much a creator actually earns?

No. CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions. RPM (Revenue Per Mille) is what a creator actually receives per 1,000 views after YouTube’s revenue share, and it includes non-ad income like memberships and Super Chats. RPM typically runs 45-55% of CPM in practice, based on publicly reported creator data.

Does Faceless track actual CPM for its channel dataset?

No. The Faceless dataset (Channels Explorer) tracks monthly revenue and subscriber counts for 50 channels, not per-view ad rates, because view-level ad performance isn’t publicly disclosed. This page pairs that first-party revenue data with publicly reported CPM/RPM ranges from other creators rather than blending the two into one invented number.

Why do different sites report different CPM numbers for the same niche?

CPM is not a fixed rate. It moves with the ad market, the season (Q4 typically runs highest), the viewer’s country and device, and how a report draws the niche’s boundaries. Treat any single CPM figure as a benchmark, not a guarantee for a specific channel.
